My good news story is, for 2010 a group of women have formed a collaboration to join efforts and resources to be successful in our health, wealth, businesses, family and in relationships.  We meet every month to share resources to help drive one another into your God-given purpose and destiny.  We have now started collaborated to form one of the largest Teen Girls Mentoring Program, covering at risk teens, pregnant teens and teens of incarcerated parents where we mentor, assist, advise and track the progress of the mentored teen.  We have now formed a collaboration to offer healthy alternatives, health fairs in our community, a food bank, transitional housing from this original idea of a documentary that God gave me called "Dare to Succeed". We are now succeeding in our health, wealth, business, families and relationships which allows us to give back to our community, church and family.  "Dare to Succeed" a 10-month documentary that brought women together from all aspects to partner, collaborate and share resources, tools and ideas to make them successful in 2010 in every avenue of their lives

The New Initiative for Success spearheaded by two city lovers:    “Come Back To Give Back" was created by two Washingtonians; a grassroots volunteer organization committed to transforming the lives of at risk youth through mentorship and education and creating leaders for our future generations in order to improve the human condition in the communities of Washington, DC.   Currently we are volunteering/mentoring at a special needs school in Washington, DC  where we provide mentorship with a concentrated focus on peer mediation, academic reinforcement, professional and leadership development, character and social development and other programs designed to educate, motivate and uplift the spirits of our youth in order to instill self worth and maximize academic achievement. Scholarships are also being developed for continued education.   Through our speaker series at the school we have created a bridge beyond our mentorship program "Come Back to Give Back.”  We have embraced a much broader community who come with skills sets that are outside of the classroom but contribute to the necessity of education with the reality of experience. These opportunities created through our speakers series opens the student to networking with trained professionals, promotes inspiration to those students who have been denied opportunities and affords options to those who have not had certain types of exposure to all sorts of professions.      The theme of the speaker series is to provide an abandon culture with education that heals...in 60 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!   Many of the youth we are providing mentorship to don’t have dreams and aspirations, which is the purpose of these speaker series, we are trying to instill at the very minimum pride, hope and encouragement to help them move successfully to the next level of their life.  Many of these students have major issues at home, in school and in the community. We believe mentorship creates leadership!!!!!!!!!!   We have a motto:  Be about what you say you are about…we are stewards of the earth!!!!!!!!!!

I am the founder of the Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Breakfast Celebration™.  For 10 years, members of the Greater Cleveland (OH) Community have celebrated the life and work of Dr. King and honored students who won a Birthday Card Contest.  My goal was to ensure that the National MLK Holiday was observed in meaningful ways, and that Dr. King’s message was passed on to the next generation of young people.  The Breakfast has been supported by the local companies, the media, elected officials and Cleveland residents.  Nearly 10,000 students have participated in the “Happy Birthday Dr. King!”© Birthday Card Contest. I created a similar project for my students while I was a teacher.  To date, $56,600.00 has been awarded in scholarships to MLK Scholars, and $37,000.00 has been donated to charitable organizations by the MLK Holiday Scholarship Committee, the Breakfast sponsor.

I am board president of the G.R.A.N.D.E. Coalition (Grandparents Recreating A New Direction Everyday). It is an organization designed to assist grandparents who hold the primary responsibility of raising their grandkids.Myself and group founder realized that grandparents often find themselves taking on the unenviable role of raising a second generation of kids with little or no assistance that is often afforded to foster parents.Instead of planning retirement activities they are planning lunch menus and parent/teacher conferences. We decided to do something about it by providing support both emotional in terms of support groups and tangible in terms of assistance in finding items from furniture to food. Last year we held a back to school drive in which we gave away school supplies and a special Valentine's Day event for grand parents treating them to a candlelit dinner while their grandkids were entertained in a seperate area.

My husband and I started a production company called Demarco Plays. This is a non profit company helping our community by portraying real life situations on stage. We teach teens and adults the consequences of their actions by giving the audience a reality check. My husband travels around the various high crime neighborhoods putting on stage plays free of charge!! We do this by maintaining our full time jobs and caring for our family. We know that no matter how hard life is we were put here to help others.
