Good morning, First I want to thank you for this wonderful opportunity of introducing you to my father Mr. McClellan, an amazing face. My father overcame drug and alcohol addiction, homelessness and depression in the year 1998 after over twenty-five years. He recently celebrated 11 years of sobriety. My father has always been a giver. One summer afternoon in 1999 he decided to have a simple family cookout in our front yard, well up comes a neighborhood child and my father offers him a burger, then more children began to show up, then adults, and even people from other parts of the community. This simple cookout turned into a weekly summer activity that proved to bring about positive change in our community for three years. My Father then decided to take the event idea to the Richmond City Council in the hope of sharing it with the city of Richmond. Several council members embraced the idea and the event has now been hosted for eight years at Byrd Park Shield's Lake. It has served over three thousand Richmond residents and visitors since 2001 with free gift giveaways, live entertainment, educational speakers, free food and drinks and more. It is now Recognized and supported by The Richmond Police Department, The Governors Office, numerous state and local agencies and businesses. It's called the Citywide Recognition Day Celebration. My father started his own 501c3 non-profit organization in 2001 called MOTIV8S "Promoting Positive Lifestyles. With the purchase of a used fax machine and operating on a needle and thread budget he brought MOTIV8S into the public eye. He wanted to help others who had suffered with addiction so he volunteered his time at local probation offices, hospitals, homeless shelters and churches. Today he provides substance abuse education services in partnership with the Richmond Department of Adult Probation and has assisted over 260 clients between the ages of 18-35 years old in becoming drug free law abiding citizens. My father has also held three Dressed for Success fashion shows geared to raise personal awareness self esteem and self worth by showcasing young men and women in upscale, business/casual and positive hip/hop attire. The event has been hosted at the Richmond Landmark Theatre and is always free to the public. My father taught me and my little sister to always be respectful and willing to help someone in need and that the only time you should look down on a person is when your intention is to pick that person up. He is my my role model, my friend, my father an amazing face

With an unparalleled heart for children Nicole aka Mrs. Nikki has been quietly Creating the Good News in Woodbridge Virginia for over 17 years. Our professional relationship began in 1997 when we adopted our son. He was 4½ years old, my husband and I were in the military and we needed a safe place that offered an early childhood development and education program, God's answer was Mrs. Nikki. She and her professional staff partnered with us helping our son learn the basics that he had not learned in foster care; but more than ABC's and 123's they helped us teach him the Word of God, not just to memorize the words but to live them. Almost eight years later, having retired, I had the honor of joining with Mrs. Nikki as she expanded to a child day center. Working side by side with this visionary I truly learned that God's ways are not our ways. In the beginning I was bewildered as I learned of decisions she made allowing some families to attend paying well below established rates; decisions to allow families to continue attending despite delinquent accounts. One day in partial frustration and partial curiosity I tallied up how much her kindness (aka grace and mercy) was costing the business on a weekly, monthly, and yearly basis… "Yes I understand we are Christians but this is a business" I recall saying as I shared the numbers that would surely bring about change. Well change occurred but mostly in me and the countless children that have passed through our center. It is her passion to provide an excellent early childhood education and summer camp program that even a single parent can afford; a program that keeps at the forefront Christ. Under her leadership I have seen children accept Christ, parents seek and receive prayer and support, prior families return to tell of the academic and character success of their children, staff members encouraged to pursue their dreams and the list goes on. Mrs. Nikki's heart can't help but create the good news!

My Dad had to be placed in a senior health care facility. He could no longer take care of himself. our family agreed on a local Nursing Home here in Indianapolis. I have nevered visit nursing homes before until my Dad was admitted. It was rough for awhile seeing him when I go and visit but most of all seeing that he was not alone for the care he needed. I would bisit 3 days a week, and would always take a basket filled with sweets and hot coffee which was his favorite. I got to know other residents and started to bring extra goods to share. My Dad died on September 3, 2009 at the age of 92. I still make visits and bring sweet treats to everyone that can eat including the employees. I know everyone by their names and most of all I know who is diabetic. I have developed a relationship so great that the residents look foward in me coming. I bring icecream and cake most of the time and what ever dessert I create. I have a great joy to see them and letting everyone know that I love them. Most of the residents do not have family and get no visits at all. I listen to what they want to talk about. My Uncle is now a resident there and he is doing fine. I thank God for this oppourtunity to serve other I pray with and for them all of the time. Taking the time out of my schedule to be with these wonderful people is a Blessing in my life. They look forward for the sweet treats but most of all they let me know that they are grateful and always ask me to come back soon and tell me ; "I make their day" God always work things out for the good so that He may recieve the Glory.

Want to take a moment to acknowledge the works of my friend Alfreda S. First she had her own 501c3 organization for kids. She helped orphan children with clothes, food and to enjoy holidays. Now Alfreda has mobilized a community of affluent men and women to provide school supplies and christmas toys for thousands of children in Atlanta, Georgia. Through the efforts of Alfreda S and the Men and Women of Distinction the lives of many disadvantaged children have been enriched.

I am a math teacher at High School who has been awestruck by the power of the un-sung heroes of education--our very hardworking, self-sacrificing parents. They are often minority, working-class poor, single parents or grandparents who believe strongly in education and continue to invest in private urban education even now-- against this bleak economic backdrop. They proceed on faith and the hope that their sacrifice will result in the next generation of contributing members of our society. This year we, the appreciative volunteers, teachers and ancillary community partners at High School will honor our parents with the second of what I believe will be a traditional event---Parents Day, May 1st, 2001 from 9:00—12:00. This year, in addition to information about supportive resources for our parents as they cope with household and financial issues, Parent's Day will focus on jobs, scholarships, internships and other introductory offerings from ancillary cultural and educational resources in direct support of students, as well.

It began in the early part of September 2009. I always dreamed of my son being a big part of someone's highschool football program. When I noticed my son not participating and not giving all that he had to give on the gridiron, right then and there I knew something was wrong. After x-rays and biopsy's my imagination had quickly turned into a nightmarish reality. My son had been diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a very common cancer found in young men and women of his age(15). While my wife and I wondered and puzzeled over how something like this could happen to such a kid who seemed to have it all going his way, our High School community as well as our place of worship, stepped up to the challenge. Once the word was out that our son was diagnosed with this horrible ailment everyone from the youngest in the community to the elders showed much love and support for my family. Prayers were prayed, monetary donations were raised and love and kindness overshadowed our house like never before. From the first mention of the disease until the final treatment of his chemotherapy, our family, friends and the whole entire communtiy has given so much support and assistance to us that it would be a great disservice not to mention and shed light some of these wonderful individuals. Though I cannot mention and thank every angel personnally that spoke a word of kindness or sent up a prayer for my son, we can only hope that through this opportunity someone may recognize the true Prayer Warriors of the Community. Thank You
