Last year, my husband and I were given the divine assignment to host teen conferences to make a difference in their young lives so that they may not grow up with a wounded spirit from their childhood experiences. I am not just making a difference in adults, it's the young wounded now. We created, 'Daughters of A Mother's Love' and 'I Am Man...In Training' Teen Conferences. We had never done this before and had only $15 in the bank. We sent emails to family and friends letting them know what we were planning and yes, we were asking for donations. And yes, many thought we had lost our minds. You see, I have no children and my husband has three grown children from a previous marriage. They could not understand why we would take on such a large project with no experience, for strangers' children. A However, we did not get discourage through all the nay-Sayers advice and opinions. We called on friends in the business/professional world to come and be guest speakers. And now, March 19, 2010 we will be hosting our 5th conference, all paid for on donations. We stepped out on our faith and have been walking in faith with our divine assignment making a positive difference in teens. Our conferences include an overnight stay and I do the cooking for Friday's dinner and bake home-made tea cakes for their overnight chat. Please visit our site at www.amotherslove.info Thank you for this opportunity to share.

I am a 1963 graduate of Texas Southern University's College of Pharmacy and a 1975 Howard University's College of Medicine. I worked full time at the U. S. Postal Service to get through pharmacy school and full time as a pharmacist to get through Medical School. I have been practicing medicine as a Family Practitioner for the past 27 &fract12; years 23 years ago I began awarding 4 scholarships per year of $500.00 each not to the smartest but to the most determined African American pharmacy students at Texas Southern University. This has continued without lapse to the present of which there are 5 scholarships being awarded per year. Seven years ago I started a program (locally and nationally) which I persuaded churches, organizations (civic, seniors and family) to form health ministry’s for the sole purpose of educating and persuading individuals to get regular health check-ups, heeding health warning signs and passing the knowledge to others. I initiate the programs free of charge, and then advise the participants to perpetuate them (the programs).

I've always taught my children to give back and to volunteer their time, now all my immediate family tries to contribute time and money and food to pantries .I've been a constant volunteer since age 18,over 30 years ago. I've had helping hands help me from others, so it's something you pass on like a recipe, it's loved and passed on.

As Founder of All Shades of Pink over the past 2 years we have been able to touch over 450 women fighting breast cancer. Through a small army of 50 volunteers we create beautiful pink and white hand-crocheted blankets that are presented to the newly diagnosed women just before their surgery. Each blanket is as unique as the women who receive them. Doctors Community Hospital and Providence Hospital have repeatedly told us that his small act of kindness makes a difference to the women in their journey by letting them know they are not in the fight alone. It is through the giving hearts of our volunteers that we were recognized by the Prince George's Volunteer Centre and the Maryland Governor's Office of Service and Volunteerism as a 2009 Outstanding Volunteer group. I thank God each day that He has blessed me and this organization with wonderful people to work with in order to serve wonderful people who are most deserving.

Purpose Bound is a non-profit organization who wraps its arms around single parents as they manoeuvre through their daily lives of providing a home for their families. We are blessed to be able to provide assistance in many ways however, we are known best for building relationships within the community to help our single parents in visionary ways. Our main focus is helping single parents with issues that deal with homeownership. Each year, we host the I've Got A Story To Tell conference and one of the highlights is to feature a single parent that we've helped. This year, we invited every single parent in the Richmond and surrounding area, to send us their story of how they became a single parent along with their wish list to improve their home. Through a community effort, we're going to do a sort of Extreme Home Makeover for the winner. Our conference will be held on June 5, 2010 where we're unveiling the selected project we undertook along with a video of the work that was done. We've read so many stories that are so heart-breaking! Mostly, women who are struggling during this season. We can't help them all but, we're willing to start small and one day is able to GIVE away a home to a single parent in desperate need.

I am a plus-size model and about 3 years ago, I won a contest called "Georgia Top Model." After winning the contest, I started a modelling/fashion group at the middle school that I teach at. I created this group especially for plus-size teens who had an interest in modelling but felt that they couldn't do it because of their size. I opened the group up to students of all races, gender, and sizes. Every year I put on a fashion show to showcase the student models. I also showcase local designers, make-up artists, hair stylists, adult models, photographers, entertainers, and local businesses. Each year, the show gets bigger and better and the student models absolutely love it as does the community. I love working with the youth and giving them a positive activity to participate in.

Praise the LORD Cathy Hughes & Staff 3 JOHN 2 I thank GOD for this opportunity to share with you. GOD has lead me to do whatever possible, when I was off from work due to injury, and illness before and after the Anthrax Attacks at the Washington DC Post Office. That affected a lot of us. My testament to this is that, through it all I'm still here. While my daughter was in school GOD lead me to wait at the bus stop with the children and be that adult supervision that so many of our children need. I would purchase HAPPY BIRTHDAY Balloons for them when I learned it was their birthday. Then once my daughter started high school I would go there and address issues that were happening in the classrooms, informing parents who because they are at work wouldn't know what was happening in the classrooms. It was through GOD'S leading. Had I not been affected by situations, I don't think that my thoughts would've turn to looking over our children like that.
